DreamIt Health Demo Day has gotten a lot of great press, from Philly.com to NewsWorks to Technical.ly Philly, and many more. These plaudits are well deserved: DreamIt Health was the first Philadelphia-based health care accelerator, and by all accounts it was a huge success. Ten health care startup companies participated in this venture, made possible by a collaboration between Independence Blue Cross (IBC), Penn Medicine and DreamIt Ventures. The more than 300 attendees to the Demo Day on July 24, 2013, included potential investors and customers, mentors and health care executives.
We at Wharton Entrepreneurship are delighted, and not only because this event was such a terrific demonstration of the robust community of heath care entrepreneurs in the Philly region. We’re proud to point out that the founders of four of the presenting companies and both of the speakers are all Wharton Entrepreneurship alumni, several of whom went through our Venture Initiation Program (VIP). If this was not a demonstration of Knowledge in Action, then I don’t know what is.
They are:
AirCare
Co-founded by George Zeng, WG’13, and Rushil Goel, WG’13, this VIP company helps hospitals prevent readmissions, improve nurse efficiency, and improve patient satisfaction through customized checklists, risk segmentation, caretaker involvement and telenursing. Watch AirCare’s presentation.
Grand Round Table
Co-founded by Eric King, C’06, and Kristy Leong, C’06, WG’13, VIP company Grand Round Table is an EHR-based decision support tool that helps clinicians benefit from the wisdom of the whole health system at the point of care. By pattern matching their cases against a database of millions of deidentified health records, case reports and medical publications, clinicians using GRT can arrive at the right treatment plan more efficiently. Watch Grand Round Table’s presentation.
Seratis
Seratis is a patient-centric mobile communication platform, bringing doctors and nurses out of the pager era. Co-founded by second-year MBA student Divya Dhar and second-year Lauder dual-degree student Lane Rettig, it leverages smartphone capabilities to allow health care providers to coordinate, track and analyze care across the team, getting patients out of the hospital faster. Watch Seratis’ presentation.
SpeSo Health
SpeSo Health, founded by Jonathan McEuen GR’09, WG’13, and Rajiv Mahale, WG’13, was another VIP company and a winner of the Wharton Venture Award. It’s an online platform that connects the 30 million patients with rare and orphan diseases with the care providers who are experts for those complex, high-cost conditions. Watch SpeSo Health’s presentation.

Neither the accelerator nor the demo day would have happened without Elliot Menschik, GR’99, M’00, managing partner of DreamIt Health, and Michael Levinson, W’81, co-founder of DreamIt Ventures.
