Peter Hsing WG97 passed away on July 17, 2020, from cardiac arrest, surrounded by his family. Pete was a kind, generous, fun-loving, and brilliant man who brought joy to those around him. He was great at school and work, as well as with his family and friends. During his days at school in Philadelphia, he cranked out homework while fitting in cards, golf, and so many fun times with his friends. He loved late-night food runs and the occasional dash to Atlantic City with the gang when his work was done. Pete joined the Wildmen hockey team even though he barely knew how to skate; he never backed down from a challenge.
Pete became very successful after Wharton, working in investment banking at JP Morgan in Hong Kong, and corporate development and corporate strategy at Microsoft before co-founding the venture capital company Merus Capital in Palo Alto, CA, in 2008. His combination of charm, focus, and intelligence made him a valuable team member and leader in technology and finance.
Pete is survived by his two children, Nicole and Brandon; his parents, Fred and Fei; his brother, Andy; and his children’s mother, Debbie Cheng. Patrick Gannon WG97, Jean Gannon (née Tung) WG97, Andrew Shih WG97, Frederica Yang WG97, and the rest of the Wharton gang will miss his quick wit, concert tickets, wine collection, love of dim sum, and most of all, him.
