John F. R. Smilgin III W53, a retired senior executive at the New York Life Insurance Company, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, June 7, at his home in Manhattan. He is survived by his two sons, John Smilgin of Seattle, Caleb Smilgin of Manhattan, his former spouse, Carol Hill Smilgin of Osterville, MA, and his sister, Lorraine Spadaro of Syracuse, NY. John was born on March 8, 1926, in Syracuse, the son of John and Frances Smilgin. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944, at age 17 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
