Franklin Carlyle Tiller WG50, age 90, of Vero Beach, FL, died of natural causes Dec. 28, 2015. He was born Dec. 19, 1925, in South Hill, VA, son of the late Ora Green Tiller. He was also predeceased by his brother, William L. Tiller; and sister, Maude Tiller. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; sister, Juanita Elmquist; sons, F. Carlyle Tiller Jr. and wife, Paula, William B. Tiller; step-children, Patric D. Spillane and wife, Lisa, Erin M. Spillane and husband, Brian G. Snyder, Timothy J. Spillane; grandchildren, F. Carlyle Tiller III, Farrell M. Tiller, Christopher S. Premuroso, Ryan P. Spillane, Sean K. Spillane and Joseph T. Spillane. He was the president of the 1943 senior class at John Marshall High School and graduated with a B.A. in economics in 1948 from the University of Richmond. Mr. Tiller earned his MBA from the Wharton School of Finance of the University of Pennsylvania in 1950. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Tiller enjoyed a successful 36-year business career with Wheat First Securities, which he joined as a Research Analyst in 1950. He served as chairman and chief executive officer of Wheat First Securities, Inc. from 1971 until his retirement in 1986. He was the recipient of multiple honors, awards and designations during his life, including Phi Beta Kappa, Beta Gamma Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa, Ben Franklin Distinguished Alumni Award – University of Pennsylvania, University of Richmond Trustees’ Distinguished Service Award, Voice of University Award – University of Richmond and Boys State of Virginia Hall of Fame. His professional activities included past director of the Midwest Stock Exchange, New York Institute of Finance and the Securities Industry Association. He was also a past president of the Richmond Society of Financial Analysts and a past member of the Regional Firms Committee of SIA. His many com-munity activities included serving as Rector of the University of Richmond, Board of Trustees; Chairman of Executive Committee, Fork Union Military Academy; Advisory Board, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary; Board of Deacons and Chairman Appropriations Commit-tee of Endowment Fund, First Baptist Church and President of Richmond Association of Phi Beta Kappa.
